Happy Birthday to Me!
My request for tonight was to stay at home, drink champagne, have a surprise homemade meal, and not to do any dishes. Ask (on your birthday) and you shall receive!
The day started out great, I love opening cards and gifts first thing in the morning. Apparently I'm a freak because I willingly abstain from opening ANYTHING before the appropriate day! Bryce got me a really sweet card that made me cry, a homemade voucher for an oil change on my car, and a gift card to Victoria's Secret. Plus, we're going on a DishCrawl tomorrow night on him :)
On the way to work one of my fav songs EVER, Fergalicious, came on and I sang my birthday girl heart out. My office was fully birthday ready and I was greeted with a hat, lei, giant Disney Princess balloon, and chocolate cupcakes!
They weren't just any cupcakes...
...but chocolate cupcakes with homemade whipped cream and strawberries! My favorite is chocolate cake with white frosting. Clearly my colleagues are smart and generous ladies ;) A little fresh fruit never hurts, either.
After work I made a very quick trip to a Tuesday night Farmer's Market that I just learned about today. For only $6.26 I got an avocado, a huge bag of kale, a bunch of apple bananas [small bananas that are very popular in Hawaii], and some extra long green beans. When I got home there was a handsome gentleman cooking dinner in my kitchen!
It's no lie when I say this is the best meal he's ever made! We had pork tenderloin with herb-dijon crust, baked mashed potatoes with mozzarella cheese and bread crumbs, and sauteed green beans. The pork was so juicy and tender and the crust was incredibly flavorful. Even the bites without the crust were heavenly. The potatoes were light, cheesy, and delicious. The green beans weren't in the crisper drawer for 5 minutes before they were cooked and the freshness, combined with just a little bit of butter, made for a refreshingly delicious veggie.
When Bryce cooks we always have plenty of leftovers and today was no exception. I can't wait for lunch tomorrow! [We're halfway through transitioning our food storage containers to glass since we don't have a microwave and reheat in the oven. It was our choice and we haven't had a microwave since June, we hardly miss it and love the extra counter space!]
Just when I thought it couldn't be a more perfect day, Bryce let me know that dessert was finally cooked and cooled! Much to my surprise dessert was mini chocolate cheesecakes with raspberries and so very cute.
Another chocolately sweet treat with fresh berries, what a great way to start my 27th year!
Today was relaxing and fulfilling and I'm feeling so spoiled by the many cards, gifts, phone calls, and birthday wishes via text, FB, and real life! My goal for 27 is to continue to SIMPLIFY my life, and I'm doing a pretty good job so far.
This blog entry is being posted on the same day as the events and I'm almost finished with writing my thank you notes! Up next is to actually read that book :)
Happy belated birthday to you! :) It looks like it was fabulous and verrrrrry delicious. Those mini chocolate cheesecakes are adorable. Looks like you have a guest blogger on your hands in the future :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Katy! It was so delicious. I'll see if I can convince him to cook, bake, and write in the future, although I think that might be a little too involved :)
